About Mike

Mike

My name is Mike Berry and I was born and raised in Kingston, ON, Canada.  I am a carpenter by trade and currently work at the Kingston General Hospital.  I would best summarize who I am by my family.  I’m first and foremost a very happy and proud husband and father.

I have a special wife, Christine Cooke, who is the light of my life and is incredibly supportive and loving.  I have a beautiful little boy named Troy. Troy was born on August 4th, 2013 (the day after my birthday, and wow what an amazing birthday gift he was!).  The day he was born was the most special day of my life and the most special event to be a part of. Troy just turned 1 last month and while there are many challenges that come with being a new father I love this little guy with all my heart and feel just so lucky to have him in my life now.

Outside of my family, my passion is both hockey and football.  Even thou both my teams have struggled as of late, I’m still proud to say I’m both an Oilers and Vikings fan!!  Unfortunately with my disease, I’m no longer able to participate in sports but am determined to receive the stem cell treatment and be able to lace up the skates and play some pond hockey with friends in 2015!

Saw a reference to your website in an article in the London Free Press. After coming here and reading more, my family and I made a small (very) donation. Hopefully there are lots of others like me that read it and the small donations combine to something substantial. You’ll be lacing them up again in no time.

    Hi Mike,
I just tuned to CFRA here in Ottawa about 2 hrs ago and they were broadcasting CTV news coverage. The news casters were talking about you. They said you are 42 and a father. What a coincidence! I am 39 and my son is 3 years old. Last year I started waking up dizzy and wanting to go back to bed. My family doctor called a specialist at Riverside hospital and this other young lady doctor told me I have Grave’s disease. I thought, boy this must be serious. No concern for the patient at all. Her resident student walked me through all the treatment options, including surgery for my over active thyroid. In the end after seeing another doctor at Montfort I was told it was just an inflamation. I really don’t know what to say. OHIP doesn’t care, governments, don’t, only people do. Strangers are people to. I always donate to strangers because I am one myself. But now I can only offer words of encouragement and support. I live in a condominium and I have to pay 56000 for the next 4 years when my family income just barely reaches that ammount in a year. Does the condo care, does the city care if I can’t pay my taxes? Nope, but politicians always care for votes. Don’t trust them. You are very brave and so is your son and wife. God bless you all! I’ll keep you in my prayers. Stefan Petrescu, Ottawa ON.
